How to play (brief description)

• One cylinder with a red lid and one with a blue lid contain the same sound.

• Children shake the cans, compare the sounds, and find the matching pairs.

• Increase difficulty: sort by volume or play with eyes closed to train the auditory sense even more.
  

An adult uses three red and three blue pairs of sound cans that differ clearly in sound. First, they shake a blue can. Then they find the matching red can by shaking. If the sounds match, both cans are set aside as a pair. Once all pairs are found, the markings on the bottom are checked to see if the matching is correct. Each blue can has the same color marking as its red partner can.

Afterwards, the cans are mixed again and the child is asked to sort the pairs by sound on their own. If the child can confidently match three pairs, the number of cans is gradually increased until all six pairs are used.

Variations:

• The child sorts the cans by volume – from quiet to loud or vice versa.

• The blue and red cans are distributed in two different rooms. Then one can is shaken, and the child in the other room has to find the can with the same sound.

• For children with low attention or slight distractibility, it is recommended to perform the exercise with eyes closed so that the sense of sight is turned off and concentration on hearing is easier.
